SEOUL, Sept. 5 (Korea Bizwire) — With new smartphone lineups set to be introduced later this year, many manufacturers are prioritizing improved cameras to attract consumers in an increasingly competitive industry.
As the obsession with the number of pixels dies down, with more consumers becoming interested in other aspects of smartphone cameras, most of the latest models are expected to come with dual-camera systems that are widely thought to be the future of mobile photography.
With two photo sensors instead of the conventional single sensor, the dual-camera system brings better results as the second camera works to add elements missed by the first sensor.
The Galaxy Note 8 is Samsung’s very first flagship model to be released with a dual-camera system, boasting features like Live Focus which allow users to adjust background blur, following in the footsteps of the likes of LG Electronics and Apple whose previous models already featured dual-camera systems.
In addition, both the wide-angle and telephoto lenses feature optical image stabilization to effectively prevent camera shake and guarantee sharp images.
While Samsung plans to feature dual-camera systems in more of its products, including low-end models like the Galaxy J7 Plus, Apple is also expected to introduce similar photo capabilities in its new iPhone 8, which is scheduled to be unveiled next week, with a 3D facial scanning feature as well as augmented reality and two 12 megapixel image sensors.
LG Electronics has been focusing on a dual-camera system ahead of time, with its latest model V30 unveiled at this year’s IFA being one of the examples.
The V30 uses a ‘crystal clear lens’ as one of the six that make up the standard lens for its rear camera, helping capture precious moments clearly and in greater detail.

The V30 comes with a 5 megapixel front camera as well as 16 and 13 megapixel rear cameras, allowing users to capture professional-level video footage.
“Competition among smartphone cameras used to focus on the number of pixels, but the focus has now shifted to features including optical image stabilizers, filters, and dual cameras to name a few. The smartphone camera competition is expected to expand to lens quality,” an industry source said.
