Ballet to Be Used to Overcome Prejudice about the Disabled Kid

SEOUL, Korea, Nov 27 (Korea Bizwire) – A ballet played by a group of kids — some of whom with disabilities — will be staged with the aim of raising public awareness about overcoming prejudice through a tool of the elegant performance dance.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MH), the play ‘Peter and the Wolf’ will be on display, performed by the ‘Happiness Together Ballet Company’ starring 19 children at the Gwacheon community center theatre at 3PM on November 30th.

The ‘Happiness Together Ballet Company’ was established on April 20th, 2013 by MH and organized by the Seoul Ballet Theatre,  is a venue where kids — disabled or not – can be able to understand each other better and dispel misunderstanding about disabilities in the process of learning  ballet together.

It is reported that nine kids with disabilities  and others at the ballet team have been receiving training every weekend since the foundation of the company in April. The performance of ‘Peter and the Wolf,’ the first official play by the ballet company will be performed in front of an audience of approximately 300 people including officials from MH as well as the players’ friends and relatives.

Lee Sang Hee, head of the department for services for the disabled at MH says, “We hope that the ‘Happiness Together Ballet Company’ recital should create a larger number of opportunities where disabled people see themselves mingle together wth others. In particular, we also hope that disabled children can gain a positive perspective on life through cultural and artistic activities, while other children would come to realize that disabled people are not much different from themselves and should be treated without prejudice.”
