SEOUL, March 13 (Korea Bizwire) — A 5.5-meter-tall mailbox in Danyang-gun is attracting tourists seeking to relive memories through old fashioned, analogue mail. The giant post box, installed near the Gosu-ri tourist information center in Danyang-gun, not only functions as a normal mailbox, but also helps to share touching personal stories in a special magazine published by the tourism department of the Danyang-gun office.
The county office is holding several tourist events that let participants send written letters to their friends and families through the giant mailbox, which was installed in December 2014 as part of the office’s ‘oldies but goodies’ tourism policy.
Danyang-gun is currently developing more tourist spots and travel packages based on love stories from historical literature. The office is focused on making tourism packages that let visitors relive famous love stories, such as one depicted in letters between Korean philosopher Toegye Yi Hwang and his love Doo Hyang, and the love story of a wise princess in Samguk Sagi, the Chronicles of the Three States.
