SEOUL, Oct. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — Nearly 8 out of 10 Seoul citizens are willing to install renewable energy power facilities such as solar panels at home as part of efforts to better cope with climate change, a survey showed Monday.
Korea Beyond Coal, a network of environmental and civic groups, conducted a survey of 1,000 Seoul citizens over 18 years of age.
Among the respondents, 83.6 percent agreed with the idea of mandating the installation of solar power facilities to cover a certain level of energy used at buildings with solar power.
A similar 83.8 percent said that they were willing to install renewable energy power facilities at home, while 47.5 percent said they would do so even without subsidies.
On the topic of climate change, 58.6 percent said that the risk was “very serious,” followed by 37.6 percent who responded “somewhat serious.”
In response to a question asking about the biggest impact caused by climate change, 67.5 percent picked “abnormal climate and natural disasters,” followed by 15.2 percent who chose “reduction in crop production” and 10.7 who said “changes in the residential environment.”
