SEOUL, May 30 (Korea Bizwire)The Ministry of Environment announced that it is launching an upgraded version of “My Town Air Quality,” a smartphone application that provides air quality information and PM10 or finer dust forecasts.

The app is interlinked with AirKorea.or.kr, which is operated by Korea Environment Corporation, and uses location-based service technology to present air quality information of the handset owner’s position.

The upgraded version will provide the real-time density of air pollutants including PM10 and overall air pollution level in forms of easy-to-understand numbers and icons.

When the “alarm” is set activated, any alerts for air pollution forecast and ozone warning days will pop up onto the main screen of the smartphone. The alarm feature will be useful to those with respiratory diseases, or ones who plan to partake in outdoor activity.

An official at the ministry’s Climate and Air Policy department said, “We are planning to promote My Town Air Quality app and its usage to organizations that involve a lot of outdoor activities such as schools.”
