Future Agro-climate Map Available by Individual Land Unit

SEOUL, July 29 (Korea Bizwire)The Rural Development Administration (RDA) began a service offering future climate information by simply entering the number of land lot in its website(www.agdcm.kr).

It opened the agro-climate map database to revitalize the usage of public data in the government 3.0 era and for individual farmers to employ it for their convenience. The RDA has ever developed the future agro-climate map database assessing the impact of the climate change on local farm lands.

After typing in their land lot, users can obtain monthly climate information (monthly temperature, highest temperature, lowest temperature and monthly rainfalls) on their farm lands such as current average climate (average climate of past 30 years as of 1981 to 2010) and future climate (averages of every 10 years from 2011 to 2100).

Current climate information is based on the weather information of the past 30 years, and the future climate is based on two representative concentration pathway (RCP) scenarios, namely RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5.

By the land unit, the service provides weather information about the extreme value of lowest temperature and the program to foresee the number of days with low temperature, so farming houses can estimate the current and future climate for their crop growing.

Through the service, farmers can make countermeasures for the future climate change and select suitable crops for their lands.

An official at the RDA said, “The climate change cannot help but affecting farming, so we need to observe it continuously. For this, we will make follow-up research on suitable crops for each land lot based on the agro-climate map.”
