SEOUL, March 25 (Korea Bizwire) — Millennial job seekers prefer companies where they can engage in tasks they like, rather than companies offering a high annual salary.
JobKorea, a local job search portal, conducted a survey of 790 job seekers born between 1980 and the 2000s, 41.9 percent of whom said they want to work in a company where they can do what they’ve always wanted to do.
Companies with a high annual salary came in second at 32.9 percent, followed by businesses with good relations among staff (25.2 percent).
Respondents preferred to look at job responsibilities (46.2 percent) rather than annual salary (43 percent) when it comes to choosing a company they’d like to work for.
Others looked at work-life balance and the workload (27.1 percent), company location (17.3 percent), company size and reputation (11.6 percent), and the company’s field of work (10.3 percent).
Struggling with unemployment, many respondents were less picky when it came to choosing what kind of company they’d like to work for, with 23.4 percent saying business types don’t matter.
At 62.3 percent, roughly two thirds of respondents wanted to be recruited as regular staff, while 28.6 percent said their recruitment status did not matter. Another 9.1 percent wanted to work as freelancers or contract workers.
Roughly one quarter of millennials wanted to receive an annual salary of 30 to 34 million won (US$24,000-28,000) in their first year, followed by those who were okay with receiving 25 to 29 million won (22.7 percent).
