ANDONG/SANGJU, Feb. 2 (Korea Bizwire) — Grape farms in North Gyeongsang Province accounted for the majority of grape exports last year, largely driven by Shine Muscat grapes.
North Gyeongsang Province reported that 88.1 percent (US$27 million) of South Korea’s grape exports ($30.7 million) last year came from the province. Among them, 92.5 percent ($25 million) were Shine Muscat grapes.
Grapes are grown on 7,202 hectares of land in the province, accounting for 57 percent of all grape farms. Shine Muscat grapes began to gain presence in 2019.
Annual growth in grape exports was 51 percent last year, far exceeding the national average (35 percent).
Major export destinations include China ($7.5 million), Vietnam ($6.9 million), Hong Kong ($5.6 million), Singapore ($1.5 million), and Canada ($1.4 million).
