SEOUL, March 2 (Korea Bizwire) – Imports of foreign draft beer and fruit flavored beer are increasing.
South Korean retail giant E-Mart Inc.’s imported beer sales fell for 18 straight months after June 2019 following a boycott movement against Japanese beer and other products.
The decline finally ended in December of last year, when imported beer sales rose by 4.8 percent, followed by an 18.2 percent jump in January.
The sales increase was primarily led by draft and fruit flavored beers. Draft beer that comes in 5-liter kegs has grown in popularity after the coronavirus outbreak raised demand for drinking at home and camping.
E-Mart reported an over 150 percent increase in draft beer sales last year, and a 230 percent increase in January of this year.
Sales of fruit flavored beer were up by 85 percent in December of last year, and jumped 110 percent in January.
