DAEJEON, March 23 (Korea Bizwire) — The state intelligence agency has launched an ethical hacker education program to cultivate cyber security experts.
The National Intelligence Service (NIS) said Monday that it held an ethical hacker cultivation course last month for 20 undergraduate and graduate students from the nine universities in Daejeon and North/South Chungcheong provinces at the National Security Research Institute in the central city of Daejeon.
This was the first time for the NIS to launch this kind of program that aims to cultivate ethical hackers, also known as white hat hackers who study the vulnerabilities of security systems to prevent hacking attacks.
The program focused on strengthening the technological capabilities needed for inspection of server vulnerabilities and security operation service at public institutions, as well as raising the awareness of security ethics.
After learning about hacking techniques, including the detection and blocking of malicious code on a real-time basis, the participants improved practical skills through simulations of cyber-attacks and defense.
To foster the trainees’ field experience, the NIS plans to enable them to participate and observe the diagnosis of server vulnerabilities and security operation services at the region’s public institutions next month.
