SEOUL, Aug. 3 (Korea Bizwire) — U.S. electric vehicle maker Tesla Inc. has suspended sales of the Model 3 Long Range, the company’s most popular EV in South Korea, raising complaints that the company is discriminating against the South Korean market.
The company announced via its website that it will suspend orders for the Model 3 Long Range.
The Model 3 Long Range is Tesla’s most popular EV in the country, with 6,275 sold between January and June of this year.
When the South Korean government decided to offer full subsidies only to EVs priced below 60 million won (US$52,160), Tesla lowered the price of the Model 3 to 59.9 million won so that the car would qualify.
The suspension of Model 3 sales in South Korea, therefore, has further led to complaints that Tesla is discriminating against the country.
Tesla explained that the suspension was due to a lack of supply. In the U.S., Japan, China, and Europe, however, the Model 3 Long Range is still being sold, although there are delays in delivery.
