SEOUL, Sep. 19 (Korea Bizwire) – Kakao, South Korea’s top messenger service provider, is about to initiate news services.
Kakao will embark on a beta service as an application type at the outset of next week and, after overcoming its shortcomings through the test service, it will initiate the official news services within this year, disclosed Kakao on September 18.
Expectedly, Kakao will provide information about community and life as an attractive layout of magazine so that users can take a glance at what they gravitate toward.
Kakao’s news services run in an automated selection method through algorism in which the application automatically selects articles according to the users’ interests, whereas Naver, South Korea’s popular search portal, selects news articles based on the level of importance and attractiveness.
“We have kept building ties with news providers so as to disseminate their contents via the new platform. The way of connecting SNS and news will be confirmed after its launching,” said the messenger service provider.
“Even in Naver, major daily newspapers and financial ones are available only with a PC, not a mobile phone,” said an official in this industry and added, “The news service quality of Kakao may be correlated to the number of news providers in the service. We also need to wait and see how users take the algorism method.”
