BUSAN, May 12 (Korea Bizwire) — A new attempt will be made to recycle the solar panels used for the nation’s industrial standards certification — known as KS certification — for the establishment of solar polar generators at welfare facilities.
The Busan metropolitan government said Wednesday it had signed a business agreement with the Korea Energy Agency, Hanwha Q Cells, Yeungnam University, Dongyang E&P Inc. and GRANDSUN Inc. to promote the project.
Thus far, the solar panels used as test samples for KS certification tests have been discarded. The new initiative is based on the concept that such panels can be useful through recycling.
The six parties will reuse these panels to install 40-kilowatt solar plants at two social welfare facilities.
Solar power solutions provider Hanwha Q Cells and electronic parts maker Dongyang E&P will be responsible for providing solar modules and inverters, respectively, while photovoltaic company GRANDSUN will be in charge of installing the solar power equipment.
Yeungnam University’s Photovoltaic Testing Center will store the solar panels instead of discarding them after completing KS certification tests.
The Busan city government will recommend which welfare facilities to select for the project, while the state-run Korea Energy Agency will orchestrate the overall management and operation of the cooperative project.
