DAEJEON, Aug. 25 (Korea Bizwire) — The Korea Minting and Security Printing Corp., South Korea’s state-run minting agency, on Wednesday unveiled a specially designed medal commemorating Son Heung-min’s Premier League Golden Boot trophy.
The front of the medal depicts Tottenham Hotspur’s South Korean star celebrating the moment with his teammates after scoring his 23rd goal last season, while the rear features his football boot along with his signature.
A total of 2,300 medals will be released, including 300 square-shaped gold medals and 500 platinum medals and 1,500 circular silver medals. They come in 99.9 percent purity, weighing 31.1 grams each.
For the first time, the medals will be sold by drawing lots. Buyers can sign up for one of each type of medal on the agency’s website until Sept. 2.
The lots will be drawn on Sept. 15, with the results announced on September 20. Buyers with losing lots will have their payments returned between Sept. 20 and 23.
Part of the profits raised from sales of the medals will be used to create a youth soccer development fund in honoring Son’s wishes.
