SEOUL, Oct. 26 (Korea Bizwire) — KT Corp., a major South Korean mobile carrier, said Tuesday it will operate a self-driving smart robot chair for three weeks on a trial basis at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in collaboration with the Seoul Design Foundation.
Visitors can ride on the robot chair to take a look around the DDP’s design showrooms and design halls.
The self-driving smart robot chair resembles a wheelchair and autonomously moves on a course, serving as a solution to help visitors view displayed artworks.
To ensure the safety of riders, artworks and other visitors, the smart robot chair is equipped with obstacle collision sensing and an automatic stoppage function as well as course change technology.
Based on its telecommunications and robot platform, KT developed the smart robot chair with hardware from Daedong Mobility and self-driving technology from Coga Robotics.
“The self-driving smart robot chair will become a robot solution for people with walking problems at various locations, including exhibition spaces, airports, hospitals and hotels,” KT said.
