SEOUL, Nov. 1 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Group on Monday unveiled the results of its study on the future of cities featuring an organic connection of mobility, logistics, energy and nature through a virtual exhibition.
The group developed the HMG Smart City reference model in collaboration with HyunJoon Yoo Architects. The reference model offers a concrete view of ideal future cities that the group envisions.
Inspired by a honeycomb pattern, the HMG Smart City concept is based on hexagonal-shaped urban development.
It effectively shortens the time needed for the completion of cities, minimizes idle spaces, and takes into consideration a variety of natural environments to ensure the maximum utilization of space.
Based on considerations that the speed of mobility can slow at the angular corner of outer urban areas, the city is designed to maximize the strength of both straight lines and curves, with a radius of 6 kilometers.
It features a human-centered surface layer mounted with easy-to-walk streets and sufficient green spaces.
The underground layer is designed to be a functional space with a focus on efficiency that is equipped with mobility, logistics and energy infrastructure.
“This study was like creating the most functional design for the entire process of human-centered mobility,” said Lee Sang-yup, executive vice president and head of Hyundai Design Center.
