SEOUL, Nov. 8 (Korea Bizwire) — The influx of infectious diseases that are spread by mosquitoes is increasing as overseas travel increases with the easing of regulations on entry to South Korea.
The number of dengue fever cases rose to 61 so far this year after sliding to 42 in 2020 and three in 2021, and all of them are imported cases from abroad, mostly from Southeast Asia, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.
The number of chikungunya cases also increased to five this year from only one in 2020 and zero in 2021.
The number of Zika virus cases stood at two this year, marking the first cases in three years.
As for malaria, the number of cases rose to 398 this year from 385 in 2020 and 294 in 2021.
