SEOUL, Nov. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Environment announced that a revision of the enforcement ordinances and regulations of the Waste Management Act came into effect on Tuesday.
The amendments cleared the way for plastic waste pyrolysis oil to be recycled for use as a raw material in petrochemical products such as naphtha and diesel.
Under the old regulations, pyrolysis oil could only be recycled for use as fuel, thus being used primarily as an auxiliary fuel for boilers.
The amendments also identified manufacturing facilities of plastic waste pyrolysis oil not as incineration facilities but as recycling facilities, thus easing installation and inspection standards.
Once the amendments take effect, coffee residue and spent mushroom substrate will be allowed to be used for the production of oil and fat products or as a fuel for thermal power plants.
Spent mushroom substrate refers to the mixture of mushroom residual substrate and mycelium.
