SEOUL, Dec. 1 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Mobis Co., South Korea’s leading auto parts maker, said Wednesday that a mobile fuel cell power pack developed in-house will be used for the hydrogen mobility demonstration project organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Ulsan Metropolitan Government.

The firm and Hyundai Genuine Co., a holding company of Hyundai Doosan Infracore and Hyundai Construction Equipment Co., jointly developed a 5-ton hydrogen fuel cell powered forklift that can be rapidly charged within five minutes and operate for five straight hours through a single charging.

The fuel cell power pack mounted on the forklift is an all-in-one system integrating a fuel cell stack, cooling device, high-voltage battery, and hydrogen tank.

With a maximum output of 50 kilowatts, it can generate enough electricity to meet the needs of a four-person household for five days.

Hyundai Mobis said that chances are high that the application of fuel cell power packs will grow further in the future, adding that small-sized power packs can be used for drones or small industrial equipment, while mid-and large-sided models would be appropriate for excavators or large construction machinery.
