SEOUL, Dec. 21 (Korea Bizwire)Night-time mountain climbing at Mount Halla on South Korea’s southern Jeju Island, which recently reopened after a two-year hiatus, is gaining popularity.

All reservations for early morning mountain climbing on Jan. 1 next year filled up just one hour after reservations opened at 9 a.m. on Dec. 1.

A number of posts on an online second-hand shop were willing to buy the QR codes given to those with reservations.

The Jeju Provincial Office said it has received reports that two of the reservation slots were resold for 50,000 won (US$38.85).

Last December and January, QR codes for winter climbing at Mount Halla were resold online, warranting countermeasures from Hallasan National Park officials.

“When going climbing on Jan. 1, we plan to implement stricter QR code scanning procedures at trailheads. Illegal transactions involving QR codes will be subject to strict civil and criminal punishment,” said Hyun Yoon-seok, head of Hallasan National Park.
