SEOUL, Dec. 22 (Korea Bizwire) — Self-driving electric buses similar in size to public city buses deployed as shuttle buses around the former presidential office Cheong Wa Dae in Seoul, starting Thursday.
Hyundai Motor Co.’s Elec City, the carmaker’s first mass-production electric bus, has been renovated into an autonomous bus.
The buses will cover a route of about 2.6 kilometers around Cheong Wa Dae, stopping at Gyeongbokgung Station, the National Palace Museum of Korea, Cheong Wa Dae Chunchumun gate and Gyeongbok Palace.
Operating hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The buses will not operate during lunch hours (12 to 1 p.m.), on Saturdays or on national holidays.
The buses will arrive every 15 minutes, except between 9 and 10 a.m., during which they will come every 30 minutes.
Unlike other autonomous bus services that require a prior reservation using a dedicated app, anyone with a public transit card can board the buses for free.
