IKSAN, Aug. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — After the challenging operation of the 2023 World Scout Jamboree, local communities collaborated to tackle the sudden, large-scale meal preparation for the Scout members.
According to Kim Heung-ju, a professor at Wonkwang University, over 2,000 Scouts arrived at the university’s dormitory in Iksan, North Jeolla Province, on Aug. 8, following the decision for an early withdrawal from their campsite.
The city government ordered meals from a nearby restaurant for the Scouts, and a coalition of volunteers including youth and elderly residents came together to assemble lunch boxes.
This restaurant, which has been consistently providing meals for those in need, had to prepare a total of 7,000 servings for three meals daily across three days.
The order quantity proved overwhelming for a small restaurant to handle alone.
In light of this situation, Professor Kim, a regular patron of the restaurant, offered assistance.
University students and elderly residents joined forces as volunteers, and as word of this endeavor spread among university faculty, they also lent a hand to support the restaurant.
Thanks to the combined efforts and engagement of the local community, the meal challenge for the scout members was effectively resolved.
