MUJU, Nov. 2 (Korea Bizwire) – Muju County in North Jeolla Province announced on Monday that “Anseong Nakhwa Nori,” a traditional fireworks spectacle, has been selected as one of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism’s “Top 100 Local Cultural Attractions” (Local 100).
Local 100 attractions are designated through the analysis of big data by local cultural experts to promote local culture and value widely, based on evaluations of attractiveness, uniqueness, connections with local culture, cultural, economic, and social impacts, as well as contributions to local development.
“Anseong Nakhwa Nori” is a traditional Korean fireworks display where people wrap a bundle of mulberry, charcoal, and salt around a long bamboo stick using traditional Korean paper and then ignite it to create fiery sparks.
Dumun Village in Anseong preserves this tradition, which was designated as an intangible cultural heritage of North Jeolla Province in 2016.
Hwang In-hong, the head of Muju County, said, “Anseong Nakhwa Nori provides a solid foundation for the successful hosting of the 2024 Muju Visit Year. We will develop it into the county’s flagship tourism product, using it as a stepping stone to attract 10 million tourists and transform the county into a globally renowned tourism destination.”
