SEOUL, Jan. 25 (Korea Bizwire) — Fashion predictions indicate that the grunge look, featuring ripped jeans and hole-filled sweaters, is set to gain popularity this spring.
According to Musinsa, a popular fashion platform, the search volume for ‘grunge look’ increased by approximately 45% from January 8 to 21 compared to the previous two weeks, showing signs of growing interest. Users on Musinsa mainly searched for grunge sweaters, hoodies, and denim, with the search volume for ‘damage denim,’ a similar style, also increasing by over 40%.
Musinsa had earlier identified ‘grunge’ as one of the key fashion trend keywords for the Spring/Summer (SS) 2024 season during its season preview.
Originating from the term ‘grunge,’ which denotes dirt and grime, the grunge look emerged alongside the popular 1990s music genre ‘grunge rock.’ It was characterized by the worn and old clothes often donned by grunge rock musicians. Signature elements include ripped jeans, hole-filled sweaters, and crumpled shirts.
Brands like Doffjason, Coeur, and Wooalong are reinforcing this year’s grunge look trend. Wooalong introduced two types of funky and vintage sweaaters, intentionally frayed or with holes.
A representative from Musinsa stated, “The grunge look, which sees faded colors and worn fabric as a comfortable and natural style, is being re-emphasized, especially among the younger generation. This ‘grunge core’ trend is expected to be particularly prominent as a daily look in the lighter-dressed spring and summer seasons.”
