SEOUL, March 28 (Korea Bizwire) – The world’s first double Ferris wheels to be built in Seoul will be open as early as 2028 as the South Korean government vowed to fast-track administrative procedures and support infrastructure for the project, the finance ministry said Thursday.
The country is working to build the mega-sized double Ferris wheels, tentatively named “Seoul Twin Eye,” at the World Cup Park in Seoul’s Sangam neighborhood.
The administrative process is supposed to take place for about 36 months, but the ministry decided to shorten the period to 27 months to allow the initiation of its construction in 2026 to be completed by around the second half of 2028, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Initially, the construction was expected to begin in the first half of 2027 for the completion in 2029.
The 180-meter attraction will be capable of carrying up to 1,440 people in one ride, and it is designed to rotate the cars without cables that usually run through the middle.
It is expected to become the world’s largest spokeless Ferris wheels.
“The government will continue efforts to facilitate investment by private companies and regional governments amid high interest rates and real estate project financing issues,” the ministry said in a release.
