SEOUL, Apr. 4 (Korea Bizwire) – In an exciting development for dinosaur enthusiasts and history buffs alike, the Gwacheon National Science Museum has announced the arrival of Scotty, the world’s largest Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton, in South Korea.

This monumental exhibit is set to open its doors to the public from April 24 to August 25, marking the 200th anniversary of dinosaur research.

Spanning an impressive 13 meters in length and standing 4.5 meters tall, Scotty’s skeleton represents the pinnacle of Tyrannosaurus rex discoveries to date, offering an unparalleled glimpse into the prehistoric past.

Unearthed in 1991 in Saskatchewan, Canada, this colossal creature was named after a bottle of Scotch whisky that was shared in celebration of its discovery.

Until now, Scotty has been showcased exclusively in Canada and Japan, making its South Korean debut a highly anticipated event.

The Gwacheon National Science Museum highlights the significant strides made in dinosaur research, particularly in the analysis of skeletal fossils through computerized tomography (CT) scans.

This advanced imaging technology has opened new avenues for understanding dinosaur senses, life spans, and growth rates.

The upcoming exhibition promises to provide insights into the latest research findings, offering visitors a comprehensive view of dinosaur life and evolution.

The exhibit will feature a series of restored Tyrannosaurus rex images from different periods, showcasing the dinosaur’s well-developed jaw nerve vessels and its sensitive snout, indicative of a keen sense of touch.

Unique to the Tyrannosaurus rex is its arctometatarsalian foot structure, designed to absorb the weight it carried, distinguishing it from other carnivorous dinosaurs.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore this distinctive anatomy and even engage in assembling a replica T-Rex foot.

Additionally, the exhibition will delve into the life and death of these magnificent creatures, utilizing bone cross-sections to estimate their age at death.

Stories from Scotty’s discovery and excavation site will also be featured, providing a comprehensive narrative of its journey from the depths of the Earth to the museum floor.

In anticipation of the grand opening, the museum will begin unveiling the assembly process of the Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton starting April 4, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the meticulous work involved in bringing Scotty to life for the public eye.
