SEOUL, Aug. 16 (Korea Bizwire) – In a bold vision for the future of television technology, Samsung Electronics is betting big on artificial intelligence to transform the viewing experience and revolutionize home connectivity.

Yong Seok-woo, President of Samsung’s Visual Display Business, announced on August 15 that the company aims to “open up new experiences with AI screens that were not possible with existing screens.”

In an editorial published on the Samsung Newsroom site, Yong stated, “Samsung Electronics, which has led innovation in both TV hardware and software, now intends to overcome existing limitations with AI and present the definition of next-generation TVs.”

Earlier this year, Samsung launched its 2024 Neo Quantum Dot LED (QLED) and Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) TV models in the domestic market, heralding what it calls the “AI TV era.”

The 2024 Neo QLED 8K TV features Samsung’s most powerful TV processor to date: the third-generation AI 8K processor.

This advanced chip boasts 512 neural networks — eight times more than its predecessor — and a neural processing unit (NPU) that operates twice as fast.

Among its cutting-edge features, the new processor includes an 8K AI Upscaling Pro function, which enhances low-resolution content to near-8K quality for sharper images.

It also offers an Active Voice Pro feature that detects volume differences between various types of content and amplifies voices for clearer dialogue.

Yong predicted that AI screens would transform daily life.

“As a hub for the AI home in the hyper-connected era, AI TV will connect and guide various devices, control necessary aspects, and provide consumers with convenience, new value, and experiences,” he said.

He highlighted features such as Calm Onboarding, which easily connects home devices through SmartThings, and the Daily Board on Samsung AI TVs, which provides an at-a-glance view of the home’s status.

Central to this evolution of the AI home is Samsung’s proprietary operating system, Tizen OS.

At the heart of all Samsung smart TVs, Tizen OS has helped the company maintain its position as the world’s top-selling TV brand for 18 consecutive years.

To date, it has been implemented in over 270 million Samsung smart TVs.

“With Tizen’s active role, the TV ecosystem has expanded beyond hardware into the software field,” Yong noted. “Based on the Tizen OS, AI TV will continue to develop.”

Samsung AI TVs, equipped with SmartThings and Tizen OS, are designed to connect with various AI devices seamlessly, providing new services tailored to users’ preferences and lifestyles without boundaries between product and service platforms.

Yong emphasized that personalized, customized experiences are at the core of Samsung AI TV’s innovation. “Through continuous Tizen upgrades, we will provide consumers with sustainable new AI experiences,” he concluded.
