SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Korea Bizwire) – Volvo Trucks, the Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturer, is bringing its latest line of fuel-efficient heavy-duty trucks to the South Korean market. The company announced the domestic launch of its FH Aero lineup at a media briefing held on September 4 in Seongdong-gu, Seoul.

The FH Aero is the latest iteration of Volvo’s best-selling Volvo FH series, incorporating advanced technology and aerodynamic design to improve fuel efficiency. The line was globally unveiled in January and first released in Europe.

In South Korea, Volvo is introducing four models, including the Volvo FH Aero, an electric version, and a liquefied natural gas (LNG) model.

The high-performance FH16 model features a new 17-liter Volvo D17 engine, capable of producing a maximum output of 780 horsepower and peak torque of 387 kgf·m.

Johan Selvén, Vice President of Volvo Trucks International, emphasized, "Sustainability is the most important value pursued by Volvo Trucks, and we are confident that the Volvo FH Aero will have a better impact on our customers and the environment." (Image courtesy of Yonhap)

All FH Aero lineup models have been elongated by 24 cm at the front to reduce air resistance, and feature streamlined edges. Side mirrors have been replaced with a camera monitoring system, further reducing air resistance and enhancing driving stability.

This system not only provides a wider field of view but also supports stable driving at night through an infrared-based ‘night mode’.

In European road tests, the Volvo FH Aero lineup demonstrated about 5% higher fuel efficiency and a 7% increase in torque compared to previous models. Domestic fuel efficiency certification is currently in progress.

Park Kang-seok, CEO of Volvo Trucks Korea, said, “We expect similar results in Korea as many of the test conditions in Europe are similar to the operating conditions here.”

Johan Selvén, Vice President of Volvo Trucks International, emphasized, “Sustainability is the most important value pursued by Volvo Trucks, and we are confident that the Volvo FH Aero will have a better impact on our customers and the environment.”

Karl-Olof Andersson, the ambassador-designate of Sweden to South Korea, who attended the briefing, stated, “Volvo Trucks is helping Korea’s innovative and sustainable green transition. We hope that the truck transportation industry will join the ‘Korea+Sweden Green Transition Alliance’ launched in 2021 to achieve more green transitions.”
