SEOUL, Nov. 1 (Korea Bizwire) – Two South Korean technology giants have secured spots on TIME magazine’s prestigious “Best Inventions of 2024″ list, highlighting the country’s continued dominance in consumer electronics innovation.
Samsung Electronics announced on October 31 that its 2024 Neo QLED 8K television and Music Frame speaker were recognized in the Consumer Electronics and Design categories, respectively.
TIME lauded the Neo QLED 8K TV for its AI-powered technology that enhances older content, noting that “its AI 8K processor’s upscaling algorithm transforms standard video content into crisp 8K resolution on a slim 12.9mm screen.”
The publication praised Samsung’s Music Frame for reimagining home speakers as decorative pieces, highlighting its versatility in displaying photos and prints while functioning as a speaker, whether mounted on walls or placed on stands.
These accolades add to Samsung’s growing list of TIME-recognized innovations, which includes the Galaxy S22 Ultra, solar-powered remote control, and The Freestyle projector in 2022, followed by the Galaxy Z Flip5 and microplastic filter in 2023.
LG Electronics also secured two spots on the list. Its LG Signature OLED T, the world’s first wireless and transparent OLED TV, was recognized in the Consumer Electronics category.
TIME emphasized its appeal to consumers seeking alternatives to traditional black screens, noting that “the Always-On-Display feature can showcase ever-changing artwork or appear as a transparent window.”
The company’s ultra-premium Signature Kitchen Suite Combi Wall Oven was selected in the Home Products category.
TIME dubbed it “Next-Level Cooking,” praising its Gourmet AI technology, which uses interior cameras to identify ingredients and suggest customized recipes, along with its sophisticated design.
This marks LG’s sixth consecutive year on TIME’s Best Inventions list, following recognition for its OLED TVs (2019-2021), indoor gardening appliance and CLOi robot (2022), and wireless OLED TV (2023), underscoring the company’s consistent innovation in consumer electronics.
