CHUNCHEON, Dec. 25 (Korea Bizwire) — Chuncheon City unveiled its new suspension bridge, Sairo 248, over Uiam Lake on December 24, marking a significant addition to the region’s tourism attractions.
The opening ceremony, held at Uiam Park, featured community events such as Christmas tree decoration, wish card creation, and food stalls to engage residents and visitors.
Stretching 248 meters in length, standing 12 meters high, and 1.5 meters wide, Sairo 248 is a steel-bottomed suspension bridge that offers visitors a thrilling view of the lake beneath their feet.
The project, launched in 2021 as part of a tourism development initiative by Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, was jointly funded by the province and Chuncheon City, with a total budget of 5.2 billion won.
Enhancements to the area include a state-of-the-art media art exhibition center and a wooden amphitheater.
Chuncheon Mayor Yuk Dong-han expressed optimism about the bridge becoming a key attraction, saying, “Sairo 248 will be a new tourism landmark, driving Chuncheon toward becoming a high-end cultural tourism city.”
Governor Kim Jin-tae added, “This bridge will invigorate tourism around Uiam Lake and Gongjicheon, becoming a memorable site for visitors. Collaborative efforts between the province and city will enhance attractions along the riverbank, including lighting installations from the suspension bridge to the skywalk.”
The bridge is poised to strengthen Chuncheon’s reputation as a cultural and recreational hub in the region.
