SEOUL, July 23 (Korea Bizwire) — The National Assembly on Wednesday adopted confirmation hearing reports for the nominees for oceans minister and minister of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups, paving the way for their official appointments.
SME Minister nominee Han Seong-sook as well as Oceans and Fisheries Minister nominee Chun Jae-soo were approved by parliamentary committees, following their confirmation hearings last week.
Han previously served as CEO of Naver Corp., South Korea’s internet portal giant, from 2017-22.
In June, she was nominated to become the first minister of SMEs and startups under the Lee Jae Myung administration.
Chun is a three-term lawmaker of the ruling Democratic Party who played a key role in devising Lee’s oceans-related election pledges.
The National Assembly has so far adopted confirmation reports for nine of the Lee administration’s inaugural Cabinet nominees with bipartisan support.
