SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co. said Monday the number of Samsung Wallet users, its digital payment platform, has surpassed 18.6 million in South Korea this year, marking the 10th anniversary of its debut.

Samsung Wallet, available on compatible Samsung smartphones and devices, first hit the market in August 2015, with the number of local users estimated at 1.6 million in the first year.

The latest figure indicates a third of South Koreans use the mobile payment system, the company added.

“Samsung Wallet has established itself as a digital wallet replacing physical ones, offering services beyond mobile payments, including transportation cards, memberships, banking transactions, as well as airline tickets and mobile coupons,” the company said in a release.

The value of annual transactions made through Samsung Wallet reached 88.6 trillion won (US$63.6 billion) in 2024, up from an estimated 3.6 trillion won in 2016, with the cumulative total estimated at 430 trillion won, Samsung added.

Samsung Wallet is also available in around 60 countries, including the United States, Britain, Saudi Arabia and Brazil.
