SEOUL, Aug. 13 (Korea Bizwire) South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) has announced a new rebate program offering consumers a 10% refund on energy-efficient household appliances purchased after July 4, 2025.

The initiative, known as the “Top Efficiency Household Appliance Rebate Program,” aims to encourage the purchase of energy-saving products and is backed by a budget of 267.1 billion won.

The program targets consumers who have purchased top-rated energy-efficient models of 11 household appliances, including televisions, refrigerators, air conditioners, and washing machines.

Eligible participants can receive up to 30,000 won per item, with the rebate limited to a maximum of 10% of the purchase price.

Since the program’s announcement on July 4, eligible buyers can apply for the rebate through an online portal. Additionally, to assist elderly or mobility-impaired individuals, rebate applications can also be processed at major appliance stores across the country.

Furthermore, the Ministry plans to launch a mobile app for rebate applications by the end of August 2025.

MOTIE allocated 267.1 billion won for the program as part of the second supplementary budget passed last month. The rebate will be available on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget is exhausted.

Since the program’s launch, consumer interest has surged, with household appliance sales increasing by more than 30% compared to the same period last year.

Energy Policy Director Cho Ik-no said the ministry is committed to minimizing any delays for consumers who are waiting for their refunds, ensuring swift processing to avoid inconvenience.
