SEOUL, Aug. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — The veterans ministry said Wednesday it will promote South Korea’s bid to host an international sporting event for wounded service members in 2029 on board a British vessel docked in the southeastern port city of Busan.

Veterans Vice Minister Kang Yun-jin and Na Hyeong-yoon, a gold medalist in cycling at the 2022 games, will attend the reception on the HMS Richmond frigate later in the day, according to the veterans ministry.

Kang plans to stress the government’s commitment to hosting the games in the central city of Daejeon in 2029, noting that the Invictus Games will be held in Britain’s Birmingham in 2027.

Founded by Britain’s Prince Harry in 2014, the Invictus Games is an international sporting competition for wounded, injured and sick service members.

South Korea is competing against five other countries to host the 2029 event– Denmark, Nigeria, Ukraine, the United States and Italy.
