SEOUL, April 9 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean boy band EXO ranked 90th on the Billboard 200 albums chart with its latest album, setting a new record as the highest-charting K-pop album by a male act.
Released on March 30, EXO’s second full-length album “Exodus” landed at No. 90 on the Billboard 200, selling 6,000 copies in the first week of its release, the Billboard.com said Thursday.
This marked the highest ranking on the chart by a K-pop male band. The previous record was 129th set by EXO for its EP “Overdose” released last year. When girl groups are included, the highest-charting album is 2NE1‘s “Crush,” which hit No. 61 on the Billboard 200, last year.
“Exodus” also set a new weekly sales record for a K-pop act’s album in the United States, beating “Crush,” which sold 5,000 copies in the week ending March 2 last year.
During the same week ending April 5, the new EXO album topped the Billboard’s World Albums’ chart while its title piece “Call Me Baby” came second on the World Digital Songs’ chart.
