SEOUL, Oct. 23 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Electronics Inc. said Thursday it will join SDVerse, a global automotive software marketplace backed by General Motors Co., Magna International Inc., and Wipro Ltd., as the South Korean tech company looks to expand its presence in the fast-growing software-defined vehicle market.
The business-to-business platform functions as an online exchange where automakers, parts suppliers, and software developers can buy and sell embedded automotive programs. It aims to streamline sourcing through an independent, industry-driven process that connects software suppliers directly with vehicle manufacturers.
LG said joining the platform will help it strengthen its automotive components business and deepen partnerships across the global auto software ecosystem. The company plans to offer several of its mobility solutions through the marketplace, including LG Alphaware, its in-house software suite for next-generation vehicles.
Traditionally known for televisions and home appliances, LG has been reshaping itself as a mobility and electronics supplier since exiting the smartphone market in 2021. The company has stepped up investment in electric vehicle components, infotainment systems, and software as global carmakers accelerate their transition toward connected and software-based vehicles.
“Collaboration is becoming the cornerstone of competitiveness in the SDV era,” an LG spokesperson said. “Joining SDVerse will allow us to better align with key partners as we move deeper into the software-driven mobility business.”
