SEOUL, Nov. 2 (Korea Bizwire) – Korea’s parcel delivery industry is in the early stages of a ‘delivery war’ between well established logistics companies and social commerce businesses.
CJ Korea Express announced a new delivery option called ’CJ The Fast Delivery’ service, which offers same-day parcel delivery for orders that are placed before 11 a.m.
The new service marks the first time that CJ Korea Express has provided same-day delivery service across the nation, instead of limiting it to metropolitan areas. The company will use its Gunpo Hub Terminal exclusively for same-day deliveries.
Company officials explained that they started the service to meet customer demand, and to lessen the burden of developing distribution services among retailers.
Amazon recently retained 66 new distribution centers and started offering deliveries on the same day, and the giant Chinese distribution enterprise JD.com also launched same-day delivery after hiring 30,000 delivery people. In addition, domestic home shopping businesses and online shopping malls are investing big money to build their own distribution networks.
CJ Korea Express is planning to start a service for metropolitan areas in which one can receive purchased products within three hours of placing an order. The company is cooperating with Mesh Korea and other startup companies that provide delivery services using motorcycles.
