JEJU, Nov. 2 (Korea Bizwire) – The Jeju Tourism Organization’s duty free stores for locals reported sales of 47 billion won so far this year, which is an all-time high.
It topped the previous record, which was 42.2 billion won in 2011, by 11.4 percent.
Officials said that the increase in local tourists that visited Jeju, and the $600 raise in the purchase limit lead to the rise in sales.
The Jeju Tourism Organization predicted that total sales will exceed 50 billion won by the end of the year.
To celebrate the new record, the Jeju duty free store is offering discounts of 30 to 50 percent on bags, watches, sunglasses and accessories until December 27.
The Jeju Tourism Organization duty free store was opened in March 2009 at Jungmun Tourist Complex in Seogwipo City. The store is currently in the process of expanding to online and mobile stores.
