SEOUL, Dec.8 (Korea Bizwire) – A revision of the ‘Special Act to Enhance the Status of Faculty’ passed the general meeting of the Education and Culture, Sports and Tourism Commission in the parliament.
The Education and Culture, Sports and Tourism Commission held a general meeting on December 7, voting on 45 bills such as a revision of the Private School Act and the Special Act to Enhance the Status of Faculty.
The Special Act to Enhance the Status of Faculty requires schools to take measures to protect faculty members when the principal knows about an assault or insult to a member of the teaching staff committed by a student. The principal is required to report the event and the outcome to the Minister of Education or Superintendent of Education.
The bill also includes measures to designate organizations equipped with facilities and experts related to counseling and treating the victim as ‘faculty treatment centers’. Contents mentioning that the operation fees will all be supported by the government were also included.
A revised bill of the Private School Act, which allows for the removal of a faculty member under investigation for sexual assault from their position, a revised bill of the Public Educational Officials Act which gives faculty members who worked over 10 years a chance to take an un-paid leave and banning any disadvantages, and a revised Teachers’ Pension Plan bill which allows hospital employees at national hospitals to become a member of the teachers’ pension plan were also voted on at the meeting.
In addition, bills that suggest support for promoting humanities and advancing the research and educational environment of scholars and researchers of humanities were also voted on.
