SEOUL, Dec.17 (Korea Bizwire) – To boost its competitive edge, SK Telecom is opening a media department, and has assigned Lee In-chan, the head of SK Broadband to take charge of the new business unit.
To strengthen the platform business as a future growth engine, SK Telecom rearranged the structure of its divisions and changed some of their names.
Firstly, the Mobile Network Operator (MNO) executive and platform executive business units were merged to a business executive organization. The media department, life value department and internet of things (IoT) service department were placed under it.
The media department is an organization that was established in advance of the merger with CJ Hellovision. SK Telecom has previously announced its plan to merge with CJ Hellovision, the No.1 cable TV business, and create an international media platform.
The living value department is an advancement of the marketing sector. It consists of the Home Business department and Product Marketing department.
The Company Solution department changed into the IoT Service department. With the newly created IoT sector, SK plans to strengthen its solution and IoT businesses.
In addition, SK Telecom changed the name of its Network department to the Infrastructure department. It will support the telecommunications business as well as the platform business.
As industry watchers predicted, CEO Jang Dong-hyun kept office. Lee In-chan, the head of SK Broadband, was promoted to Vice President as he took charge of the Media sector of SK Telecom. Another four executives were promoted, and eight other employees were promoted to executive positions.
