SEOUL, Jan. 27 (Korea Bizwire) - Samsung Electronics Co. plans to provide large-sum bonuses for its employees in the semiconductor and smartphone sectors as a reward for last year’s performance, industry sources said Wednesday.
Under the plan, Samsung Electronics will provide their workers what it calls overall performance incentive worth 50 percent of their annual salary at its semiconductor segment, citing their robust performances.
Samsung Electronics’ chip business posted a record operating profit of 3.66 trillion won (US$3 billion) in the third quarter, shattering the previous record of 3.4 trillion won reached in the third quarter of 2010. Sales of semiconductors reached a record high of 12.82 trillion won.
The company is scheduled to announce their fourth-quarter report on Thursday.
Employees in the mobile division will also receive 50 percent of their annual wages as incentive payment, despite the generally lackluster performances throughout 2015. This will mark the second time in a row that mobile business workers will be getting the maximum amount of bonus pay.
Samsung’s IT and mobile reported an operating profit of 2.4 trillion won in the July-September period, slightly lower than the previous quarter’s 2.7 trillion won.
The tech giant will also give out bonuses equivalent to 10 percent of annual pay for its consumer electronics workers and provide 21 percent in bonuses for its staff at the video-display business.’
