SEOUL, March 15 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics Co.‘s latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S7, costs more to produce than the top handset made by its archrival, Apple Inc., data showed Tuesday.
According to the data compiled by industry tracker IHS, the combined price of parts used in the 32-gigabyte Galaxy S7 is estimated at US$249.5, accounting for 37.1 percent of the factory price of $672.
The Galaxy S7′s break-down costs hovered above the estimated $187.91 for 16-GB iPhone 6s made by U.S.-based Apple, which is 28.9 percent of its factory price of $649.
The price of the 32-GB Galaxy S7 stands at 836,000 won ($704) in South Korea, although the price could go down to 650,000 won with a subscription to a costly subscription plan.
By segment, the price tag on the application processor of the Galaxy S7 stood at $62, the most expensive part in the premium smartphone. The 5.1-inch Quad HD Super active mode organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display followed at $55.
The dual pixel sensor, which is promoted by Samsung Electronics in advertising the Galaxy S7 as it allows users to take quality photos in the dark, costs only $4.65, the researcher added.’
