SEOUL, June 12 (Korea Bizwire) – The government said Sunday that it has toughened punishment against those who assault or threaten doctors and nurses in a move to create a stable environment for medical treatment.
Under a revised law that has gone into effect, anyone who either assaults or threatens a doctor or nurse would face up to five years in prison or be fined a maximum of 20 million won (US$17,000), according to the Health and Welfare Ministry.
The law also mandates that doctors and nurses wear a name tag to ensure that patients do not mistake non-medical professionals for doctors or nurses.
