SEOUL, Nov. 1 (Korea Bizwire) – The Korea Trade Promotion Corporation (KOTRA) released a book titled 2017 Global Trends that Will Excite Korea (translated) on Tuesday, highlighting 12 trends to look out for in 2017.
KOTRA anticipated Future Food, foodstuff that steps outside the conventional diet (such as space food); Daily Detox, finding repose in daily life; and Homo Ludens, people seeking unique pastime activities, would find new audiences with growing popularity.
Self-serving lifestyles such as a Tailor-made Vacation or “Only Me” way of life were also cited as upcoming trends to likely to increase in popularity.
More people are expected to seek places, animals, or even robots to emotionally depend on, living in societies that are growing more indifferent, weary, and competitive, and the book pointed to Emotional AI, Guru Marketing, and Petmily (pet + family) as solutions.
Other trends expecting to catch Korea’s attention included New Shelter, unique housing such as water homes; the idea of Omnipresence; and Eco Creator (eco-friendly, creative businesses).
The book was compiled by 126 KOTRA trade agents from 86 countries who offered various business examples after observing the flow of culture, economy, and society in their respective regions.
“We hope the book allows opportunities for businesses seeking new ideas or niche markets within Korea,” said a KOTRA official. “The book will be an inspiration for corporations seeking new marketing strategies, soon-to-be entrepreneurs in search of new business ideas, or even students, curious to find out the latest trends from overseas.”
