HADONG, Sept. 15 (Korea Bizwire) — Asia’s longest zip wire ride has opened at Gumo Mountain in Hadong County, stretching over 3,186 meters between the top of Gumo Mountain and the periphery of Gyeongchung Temple.
On Thursday, the opening ceremony of Gumo Mountain’s Adventure Zip Wire took place, after which the service for the ride officially began.
A zip wire is an extreme sport which uses a wire rope, giving riders high-speed thrills.
Gumo Mountain’s Adventure Zip Wire is thought to be twice as long as the previous longest zip wire title holder for Asia, which is in Yeongcheon in North Gyeongsang Province, with riders hitting speeds in excess of 120 kilometers per hour at certain points of the descent.
The new zip wire ride at Gumo Mountain is part of Hadong County’s leisure sports complex project in the region, which began in the summer of 2015 when the county invested over 3 billion won.
Yun Sang-gi, the mayor of Hadong County, also announced plans during the opening ceremony for cable cars and monorails as part of efforts to make Gumo Mountain a mecca for leisure sports.
