YEONGDONG, Mar. 2 (Korea Bizwire) — The highly acclaimed wines from Yeongdong County have won this year’s Korea Wine & Spirits Awards, solidifying the region’s position as a leading wine brand in South Korea
According to the Yeongdong County government on Thursday, three wines produced in the region took home awards at the 2018 Korea Wine & Spirits Awards earlier this week.
The event, which was organized by Chosun Biz and sponsored by seven other organizations including the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, gives recognition to the best wines in the country, and saw two wineries in Yeongdong win again in a repeat of last year’s results.
“Yeongdong wines are becoming premium products as they continue to win awards both at home and abroad,” a local government official said.
Since being developed as a wine district in 2005, the county government has helped build 42 wineries, sending local trainees to France and Italy for education programs.
Yeopo’s Dream White, one of the wines from Yeongdong County, was served during the dinner with President Moon Jae-in and White House aide Ivanka Trump last week.
