SEOUL, May 27 (Korea Bizwire) – The levels of fine dust, ultrafine dust, and Chinese ‘yellow dust’ in the Korean atmosphere have increased in recent years, posing a threat to public health.
The inhalation of fine dust particles can cause bronchial problems even for healthy individuals, and can be especially harmful to patients already suffering from asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.
Fine dust struck a majority of regions across the country, including the Seoul metropolitan area, on Friday. The Korea Meteorological Administration advised citizens to wear facemasks and refrain from participating in outdoor activities.
Meanwhile, members of an environmental group held a rally at Gwanghwamun Plaza in central Seoul, calling for urgent government intervention to help curb emissions of fine dust.
