SEOUL, June 17 (Korea Bizwire) — The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) said Tuesday its business delegation has completed a four-day visit to Washington aimed at advancing South Korea-U.S. economic cooperation amid a recent leadership change in Seoul.
During the chamber’s annual “Doorknock” program from June 9, the delegation held around 40 meetings with senior officials in Washington, including those of the U.S. departments of treasury, commerce, state, energy and defense, according to AMCHAM.
Delegation members also met with officials from the office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), the National Security Council and the office of the vice president.
The visit marked AMCHAM’s first outreach to the United States since the inauguration of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung earlier this month. The delegation used the occasion to convey Seoul’s continued commitment to the bilateral relationship and discuss areas for expanded cooperation, particularly in strategic industries.
AMCHAM also underscored South Korea’s position as the top foreign investor in the U.S. and highlighted the importance of a predictable business environment amid ongoing tariff negotiations between the two countries.
“This year’s Doorknock provided a valuable forum to engage directly with U.S. policymakers,” said James Kim, AMCHAM chairman and chief executive officer (CEO). “We saw strong interest in expanding cooperation in key industries, and we look forward to continued dialogue in support of the U.S.-Korea economic partnership.”
