SEOUL, July 16 (Korea Bizwire)The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) held a cybersecurity seminar Wednesday in Seoul, bringing together senior government officials, business leaders and cybersecurity experts to address the growing digital threats in areas of cybersecurity and national security.

Under the theme of cybersecurity, participants explored strategic responses to evolving digital threats, as the United States and South Korea continue to deepen their technology alliance, AMCHAM said.

“Cybersecurity must be recognized not just as a corporate concern, but as a cornerstone of national and economic security,” said AMCHAM Chairman James Kim. “The recent SK Telecom incident is a stark reminder of how real and immediate these risks are — impacting daily life, business operations and public trust.”

Choi Woo-hyuk, director general of the cybersecurity bureau at South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT, echoed such concerns.

“With the rapid advancement of technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), new threats are emerging across every aspect of society, from critical infrastructure to our daily lives,” Choi said.

Justin Chang, legal attache of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, underscored the need for international collaboration in combating increasingly complex threats.

“Cyberattacks today are not just a corporate risk — they are a national and global security threat. In a world where the line between cyber criminals and nation-state actors is increasingly blurred, no single entity can face this challenge alone,” Chang said.
