SEOUL, Dec. 13 (Korea Bizwire) – Asiana Airlines, one of South Korea’s major air carriers, has announced a temporary program to measure the body weight of passengers on its domestic flights. This initiative, running from December 12 to 21, is part of a standard weight measurement protocol mandated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The measurements will be conducted at the departure gates of the domestic terminal at Gimpo Airport in Seoul. Passengers boarding Asiana Airlines’ domestic flights at this airport are invited to have their body weight recorded along with their carry-on luggage. Participation is voluntary, and passengers may opt out if they choose.

Asiana Airlines has assured passengers that all data collected will be anonymous and used exclusively for calculating average passenger weight. This information is crucial for balancing the aircraft’s weight distribution, enhancing flight safety, and improving operational efficiency by ensuring that no excess fuel is carried.

This practice of measuring standard passenger weight is conducted every five years, as per the guidelines for aircraft weight and balance management set by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Other South Korean airlines, including Korean Air in August of this year, T’way Air in January, and Jeju Air in December of last year, have also conducted similar passenger weight measurements.

An official from Asiana Airlines emphasized the importance of this initiative for safe flight operations and requested passengers’ cooperation, reaffirming that those wishing to opt out can simply inform Asiana employees.
